My Inspiration
The winter in Seattle was exceptionally soggy when I taught myself how to paint. Born in Bellingham, WA, I was raised partly in Bethesda, MD and on Bainbridge Island. I started painting somewhat on accident. My dream has always been fashion design, since my first memory I knew that was my talent and purpose.
I was feeling discouraged and stagnant when I first picked up the paintbrush. It had been a few years since I graduated college, packed a duffel bag with some dreams and got on a bus to NYC. I was craving the satisfaction of doing something I love, to be creative. Life in Seattle was as predictable as the weather so with the promise of another window framing a perfectly grey day ahead I began adding color onto the walls of my home, life, and mindset. Piece after piece I continued to see improvement and feel the joy of learning patience.
My medium is Acrylic and my subject is mainly women, they are the images that walk my mental runway. The names of these paintings are all very special to me, some are obvious names of important people in my life, some are people who I’ve shared only moments with, but they all have something in common. Each left a vibrant stroke of brilliant color in my heart and on my mind.
The beauty of it all is the infinite source of inspiration. As long as I have life, I will have inspiration. When asked recently why I do what I do the best answer I could give is, “because I don’t know how not to.” Passion is the lead foot on the gas pedal, the vehicle is my soul and the roads all lead toward opportunity.
